I hate to take tests.

What a day!  I had a spelling test as soon as school started this morning. Did not do as well as I thought I would.  Bummer.   After recess I had a math quiz.   We are working on fractions now and this really messes my brain up.   Why God made things so complicated is beyond me!  Where is the fun in school when what I’m learning is actually hard to understand?  The day was full of new challenges.  Even the food for lunch was something that I had never seen before.   I ate it but did not know what I was eating.

My teacher also introduced us to a student that is studying to be a teacher and she will be with us every day for the next six weeks.  She will be helping us prepare for some year-end tests.   This school business in like going to work every day.  Long hours, challenging people and little reward.  Life should be fun for a kid like

I have a big science project to do!

Spring Vacation is over and I am back in school.  I am already looking forward to summer break!    My teacher announced big assignment today.  Each kid in my class has to do a science project.  We have to decide what we want to do, plan out what has to be done, and then do what we planned.  This all sounds more like work than fun to me.

This science project is not due for six weeks, so I have plenty of time.  I have no idea what I want to do.  I will have to think about this.   I do know that when it is due each of us in the class have to make a presentation to all the other students.  This means I have to stand up and talk about my project for at least 10 minutes!   I think I am in trouble already!   School should be fun—and this science project sounds like it is going to be too much work.    Wonder if Andy has to do a science project for his class as well.  Maybe he has some ideas.

I am trying out for jazz band!

This week I am trying out for the school jazz band.  I sure hope I’m accepted this year.  I practiced my trumpet over the summer and am better now than last spring.  I think I’m pretty good.  The jazz band gets to play at different places around town—like the Harvest Festival, the Children’s Hospital, Kiwanis and Rotary.  Hopefully we will get to go state competition next Spring. This means we’ll take a bus and stay overnight in a hotel.

Jumping into the hay.

What an exciting time I had this last week.  The trip to the family farm was so much fun.   It was still too cold to swim in the pond, but we played around the pond a great deal.   We created a new game in the old barn.  We climbed way up high on the walls of the barn and then jumped into a pile of hay piles on the floor.  It was just like flying through the air.   Everything was going well until my oldest cousin, Paul, landed wrong and sprained his ankle.   I was glad he was not badly hurt.

The grownup saw what we were doing and decided our climbing the barn walls and flying to the hay below was too dangerous and made us stop.  Going to a new place for a few days is always creates new memories.  I think we are going back for a week after school is out.  Maybe on that trip I will invite Andy and his Uncle Andrew to join us.  I know Andy would have a blast on the farm.  I saw a lot of his distant relatives there!

Going to the family farm.

School is our all week for Spring Vacation.   Mom and Dad surprised me this morning by telling my brother, sister and me that we are going on a three-day vacation to see my cousins who live on the old family farm.  We are going to travel by car and it will take us four hours to just get there.  I am taking my pad with me so I can play games while we travel.   I thought about inviting Andy to join us, but I was sure his Dad would want another older ant to travel with him.  As I thought more about asking him, I decided this would not be the best idea. Hiding out for hours on end is not what Andy thinks is fun.   I know the trip to the family farm is going to be a lot of fun.  All of us cousins enjoy finding things to do around the farm property.  There is a swimming hole, a rope swing, an orchard and old pens for a few farm animals.  This is going to be a blast!
